Everyone has a budget, they generally want the best job possible for the cheapest price! This is just plain logic, we all do it! however when it comes to flooring people tend to upgrade the product and down grade the preparation to fit in with their budget, this is not generally the best course of practice. If cuts are to be made then its better to down grade the product as its the preparation which will enhance the floor coverings performance and durability, most floor coverings nowadays come with a minimum of 10 years wear guarantee. Always take into account that the preparation can sometimes be the same price as the floor covering or more depending on the methods and products needed, subfloor treatments such as smoothing compounds, moisture suppressants and plywood are all stated in BS Standards and are never a money making scheme, some or most manufacturers generally won't guarantee their products unless the correct preparation methods have been undertaken. In summary if you want a floor to perform correctly always account for the preparation costs and speak to the manufacturers who are always happy to answer any technical queries.
